After a record-breaking WrestleMania 40, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson confirmed he was stepping away again from WWE in the short term.

‘The Final Boss’ teamed with his cousin, Roman Reigns, in what was billed as the greatest tag team match off all-time on Night one of WrestleMania, ultimately coming out on top to win his comeback match on the grandest stage.

Speaking on the RAW after WrestleMania, The Rock admitted he’d be ‘going away’ for a while, sparking immediate speculation as to when fans would likely see him return to WWE programming.

Since then, the company’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, has continued to rave about The Rock’s latest stint in WWE. Addressing Sports Business Journal’s World Congress of Sports in Los Angeles, he said: “We were thrilled to have Rock be involved.

"When you can have the biggest star on the globe, arguably, want to be a part of what we do, and in a meaningful way, and want to do it in a way where he’s not just like, 'Hey, yeah, I’ll come in, tell me what to do, I’ll go do this.

“But all of his resources, all of his brain power, all of his creative, all of those things, his branding, everything, I want to invest in this, I want to make it an amazing ride for our fans - it doesn’t get any better than that.

“He goes off, he makes a few movies now and as he said a week ago, he’ll be back and it’ll be a hell of a ride when he comes back.”

Suffice to say, Triple H is all in on The Rock, with many fans now speculating that we could see him back as soon as SummerSlam, where he’d likely challenge the man he pinned at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes, for his WWE title.

The main question, then, becomes what character we’d see The Rock adopt upon his next WWE run. And based on more quotes from Triple H, it’s clear ‘The Game’ was a massive fan of his recent gimmick.

“If you had told me in the beginning of the conversation that we we’re going to get the ‘Final Boss’ heel version of The Rock, I would have said ‘you’re crazy,’ but that’s his level of commitment.”

The Rock isn’t the only nostalgic superstar who has had questions raised over a possible WWE return, either. The Undertaker recently issued an update about his own situation, suggesting his days in the ring as a competitor are behind him.

Nonetheless, it didn’t stop ‘The Deadman’ stealing the show in Philadelphia this year, making a surprise appearance to team with John Cena to take out The Rock.

Fans will have to wait and see when exactly The Rock makes his much-anticipated wrestling return, but if one thing’s for sure, it promises to be electrifying.
