talkSPORT betting tips – Best bets for day two at Chester May Festival

Day two of Chester’s May Festival resumes on Thursday afternoon with Group 3 and Listed action on the card including the Ormonde Stakes.

It’s another seven-race card and our expert, Colm Doyle, has a trio of selections including a course specialist who bids for more success on the Roodee.

1.30 Chester - Radio Goo Goo

Proven ability to act around the tight turns of Chester is a big advantage and the filly in the opening race of day two, Radio Goo Goo, is unbeaten in two starts at the North West track.

The daughter of Havana Grey won on day one of the meeting last year before adding another six furlong success later that month. She was clearly thriving at that point, winning five of her first six starts of the season and while she hasn’t won since that spell, she’s shaped with promise in a couple of her recent starts.

She overdid the early fractions at Wolverhampton last time but it was a highly promising effort at Kempton previously and she should relish getting back on turf now.

While her very best form is over the six furlong trip, she’s run some big races in defeat over the minimum distance and she’s now dropped to 3lb below her last winning handicap mark. A first win over five furlongs could be just around the corner.

3.05 Chester - Capulet

The Dee Stakes has thrown up some good horses down the years including the likes of Circus Maximus who went on to succeed at the highest level and Cliffs Of Moher who was only narrowly denied in a Derby.

They were both trained by the Ballydoyle maestro, Aidan O’Brien, who has a remarkable record in the Dee Stakes having won eight of the last 11 renewals and Capulet is his sole representative this time around.

He was a smart juvenile who chased home Diego Velazquez on his second career start before a respectable run behind Ghostwriter in the Royal Lodge at Newmarket.

He was behind re-opposing Bracken’s Laugh on his return at Chelmsford this season but the yard’s horses have been coming on plenty from their reappearance runs in recent years and he can reverse form here stepping up in trip.

3.40 Chester - Arrest

The Ormonde Stakes is the feature contest on day two at Chester and it looks like a good opportunity for Arrest to get his head back in front.

The Juddmonte colt looked highly promising over this sort of trip last year, winning a Group 3 at Newbury before chasing home a nice prospect in the St Leger.

It was a low-key return to action back at Newbury this season but a few of the yard’s horses have been undercooked for their return runs this season and he can resume progress with that run under his belt.
