Top 50 Players of the EFL – 24th: James Collins (Luton Town)

Luton Town striker James Collins has been voted by you as the 24th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Collins is the 26th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

The 28-year-old striker, who is not to be mistaken with the former Welsh international with the same name, has been a goalscorer wherever he has played. Whether it was either of his two spells at Shrewsbury Town, Swindon Town or Crawley Town, Collins was usually getting on the score sheet on a regular basis. He continued that in his first season at Luton last year, even kicking off his career at Kenilworth Road with a hat trick. These goals helped lead them to promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

And amazingly, he has done it again as his goalscoring exploits have led the Hatters back to the Sky Bet Championship, something unimaginable for the club just a few years ago. This season in the 48 appearances he made for Luton, he was able to score a stunning 25 goals. This made him the top scorer in the division, beating the nearest player Lyle Taylor by three goals. However Collins will face his biggest challenge next year should he stay at Luton, keeping up that rate of scoring in the Championship.
