Monday April 22nd horse racing tips

  • PONTEFRACT - 2.52: Esmeray 15/8 (1.5pts),
  • FFOS LAS - 3.42: Animal 12/1 each-way (1pt)
  • KEMPTON - 3.48: Classic King 4/5 (NAP - 2pts), Issar d'Airy 9/1 each-way (1pt)

Esmeray

This Ralph Beckett-owned filly is well-weighted having been bumped down 1lb since last time out in September 2023, placing well enough behind Shagpyle and Flash Bardot.

That was her first step up to 1m4f though and her previous form over this distance is ideal, having beaten It's Marvellous by over four lengths after just being beaten by a neck to Elegancia.

All of which boosts her form for her first outing as a four-year-old, as she's performed incredibly well against 80+ rated horses and now is given plenty of weight from similar rivals.

Silvestre De Sousa is on board and he's been in great form too which will only help this filly's chances.

Animal

Animal is quite often up there at the finish and only hasn't featured in the top three this season on his latest outing at Sandown, when beaten by some carrying virtually nothing.

He's down 1lb and is at the same weight he was when a close third at Market Rasen behind Landen Calling.

He stays well and has to be huge value at this price and even goes well on good to soft ground.

Classic King

Odds-on for a reason and part of that is he's already beaten Bhaloo, who reappears as a rival this afternoon.

He's gone on to go well in defeat in 2024 including a close second to The Doyen Chief and does seem very well suited to this kind of trip.

Especially when upped 4lb for his latest race which ended in him falling at the last while disputing the lead but looking well in.

He was right up there with Huffin An A Puffin and the favourite Ballybentragh, who went off to a Grade 1 hurdle.

He's been given a month since that fall and was going very well still on the bridle to suggest this trip is ideal.

Issar d'Airy

Only six-years-old and has a bright future as a chaser having won his first two for Gary Moore.

Faced a tougher challenge up against the likes of Persian Time in March but was only eight lengths off the winner in fifth, despite having hit a couple of fences and made a mistake at the seventh fence.

That's still more than promising back to this kind of trip with Niall Houlihan back on board to make it interesting as an each-way play.
